Why Most Bloggers Never See Their Blogs As a Business
Two writers, Martins and Smith were walking along the road, and a conversation resulted: Martins: Smith, how do you see blogging as a possibility? Smith: Well, I'm convinced that blogging is a huge business Martins Blogging: A huge business? How? Smith: It is similar to any other type of business. Martins Do you not think there are other kinds of businesses that are distinct from blogging? Smith What do you mean? Smith: Oh! I can see! But what exactly is a business? Martins: Business involves investment and can also earn profits. Smith: Really? Martins: Yes! Smith Why don't you put your time, money and your intellect into blogging? Martins: Yes, we do Smith Doesn't blogging generate revenues through AdSense advertisements, advertising, affiliate sales, sponsored posts and flipping links, membership, etc? Martins: They do Smith What is the reason why blogs unique from businesses? Martins: Hmmmmmmm! I've never even thought about these issues before. I was under the impression that only businesses that had a tag were qualified to be referred to as a business. Smith All that is involving investment of any kind and later yields profits, is a commercial enterprise. Martins Says: Ah, I see! Thanks for the clarification. I will start taking my blog into enterprise from now on. Are you still in doubt? Are you still wondering whether your blog can be considered something you can call a business? Did you create your blog because of a past moment? Did you create your blog simply because you wanted to expose your thoughts to the world? A lot of people began for one reason or the other - to share their thoughts, update personal album or promote a business brand or sell products, help solve people's problems, share tutorials and so on. So everybody actually had a dream to begin with and everyone's dreams could be different from another's. However, some of these ideas are modified as time passes. Ideas come up that are new and are then incorporated into dream. The people who started to share their thoughts, updating their pages, providing tutorials or solving issues start to understand the need to add an opportunity to earn money in order to continue up their blogs or handle other personal requirements. What is it that makes blogging a business? The following attributes make blogging a business; If your blog is any of them, you should think about it for what it is : business Creates Income: Businesses typically produce income from their owner. It could be from the sale of products on your website (profits), earnings from advertisements, membership fees, consultancy, etc. Therefore, if your blog earns revenue from any of these channels, your blog is considered to be a business. It's an investment. Business involves financial investment to make profits or earn interest. Wikipedia defines investment in this manner investing the money in an asset with the hope of capital appreciation, dividends or interest-earning So the blog is an investment, as you are paying for web hosting, website development, templates, plugins as well as webmaster services, special scripts as well as other services with the intention of making some profit either in the immediate or in future. In addition to investing money, you're also making a decision to invest your time in an extremely serious note. Hope you agree with me? Employment generation by blogs is a two-fold aspect. The blogger is employed, and, secondly, he employs editors or engineers for maintenance to ensure that things are moving seamlessly on his blog. To find work, you're either a government official or a businessperson. Pension plan: A sound business will help ensure the future of the owner. Good businesses are assets that owners can rely on throughout their retirement years. Blogging also provides that security if it is well handled and treated with the care it requires. Similarities between blogging and other businesses In the realm of business there are several distinct types of companies that immediately come to mind. These include the following: 1. Sole proprietorship: This is the type of company that is managed and owned by a single person. The decision-making process is carried out by one person and the loss of the business owner could result in the demise of the business. A majority of blogs are comparable to the sole proprietorship model of company in that the blogger operates his blog in a solo fashion. He is the sole decision maker as well as expands slowly. He's an expert in all things. 2. Partnership: Partnership business is two or more individuals coming together for business. While conventional companies operate on a partnership level however, blogging could also be considered a partnership investment. One great example of a blogging in partnership is LeapZone Strategies where Isabelle Mercier Turcotte and Margarita Romano have worked together since. Naturally, they both invest their cash and share the losses and profits together. There are other forms of business, however we're content only with these two. The fact that they are both different has made it easier for us to identify our distinctions. Now that we have been able to see the various types of companies, it brings our to the following step. Why then do blogging businesses fail? Prior to now, a few of us were not seeing blogging as a way to make money. However, now that we understand, it is good to understand the reason why a lot of blogging businesses fail. You don't know some blogs fail? Yes, they do, in fact! One question that requires urgently addressed is why do blogging businesses fail? 1. Lack of investment: One of the things I discussed in my earlier post about business is the fact that business requires investment (both finance, time intelligence, time, etc.). Unfortunately, a lot of bloggers hoping to make money with their blogs do not invest in real money to improve the standard of their blogs in order to be able to market them. Relying on freebies to run your blog in every aspect could make your blog an ideal dumping ground for substandard material. 2. A lack of focus: Not being able to keep a focus on one's goal or interest is among the primary reasons why a lot of bloggers don't succeed in their business. This has happened to me in the past. When I started this blog way back in 2009 it was attracting in traffic and growing each day. After a while, I lost interest and began to pursue other dreams. That blog eventually paid the price for my loss of concentration. 3. Not driven by ambition: If you're not an ambitious enough blogger, it's difficult for you to achieve success in your blogging business. Customers are the most valuable asset of every business and they must be treated with care and affection. Many business owners are unaware the fact that their survival is secured by the patronage of their clients. They simply treat their customers with disrespect. It is what the client or customer gets out of it." Peter Drucker My word of advice The world we live in is a time of intense competition, and only those willing to go the extra mile to do what the rest of us aren't prepared to do actually make it. As a blogger and businessman, to make it in your field you must include these items in your resume: Invest in your business: Stop depending on freebies to run your business. The fact that there are freebies but also paying versions for the same product will convince you that paid and free products are not the same. While you'll need some freebies, you must be prepared to invest a lot more to bring some modern technology on your own business. Be focused: If pursue two rats at the time, you're likely to get zero. Once you've decided to pursue a dream be sure to follow the goal to its logical conclusion. Avoid getting distracted on the route. Inattention and distraction are the biggest killers of dreams, so they must be eliminated at all cost. Get motivated by your ambitions Do not enter any industry because you know others are there. You need to have ambition and drive to succeed in your chosen niche. If your desire is strong enough, sufficient energy will be released to help accomplish your goal. Treat your customers like gold: Yes, you heard me well! Your customers don't deserve anything less. They are the ones who pay the bills, and if they end their support, you're in the dust. One satisfied customer is able to bring 20 additional customers, while unsatisfied customers can snare away another 100. Are you in agreement with me? Conclusion Blogging is an enterprise and needs to be treated as such. Stop treating it with levity because your future might dependent on the blog. If you wish for your blogging company to be successful it is essential to invest time, money and intellectuality into it. A few freebies won't provide the most value to your business. Don't forget that you don't make the payments, your customers pay them. Therefore, you must not treat your customers poorly since they are the reason why you're still operating.
