Why The Education System Is Failing Our Children
What is what is the Biden Administration doing (a) to assist the 15 to 43 percent of children affected by trauma in the US, (b) to assist the three million children who are deficient in food and need to ask the teacher for food and (c) to provide schools with the necessary tools for teaching children to read and write? The reason is that as result of the decision in Citizens United in 2010 which allowed for unlimited spending in elections, government decisions are influenced by campaign contributions - legalized bribery. Children aren't able to vote so they're not able compete with corporations in the power corridors that are filled with lobbyists' money. The Governor may have been to gain political points by appealing in the direction of those in the Teachers Union and the School Boards. However, if the person who would like to manage the state government does not be aware that the public schools belong to taxpayers who provide the funds How can he be relied on to reform the system? The people may provide the funds to pay for the public schools but a significant portion of the funds come from property taxes , which create significant funding disparities between impoverished and wealthy communities. A better system would be to make use of state taxes for funding as in Indiana or Michigan. Young people are the society's most precious treasure. However, society is failing them. Children who are traumatized can't learn and are more vulnerable to violence. Children who aren't fed can't learn to read or write and tend to be in prison institution instead of a school of higher learning. The shortcomings of the education system is not just hindering opportunities for our top and brightest but is itself falling in the world rankings especially in the realms of mathematics and science. Constitutionally when the government doesn't do its job it is the right of the citizens to intervene and to do what is right.. First, we must pass a Constitutional Amendment to reverse Citizens United and to restore democracy to the electoral system. The second requirement is that people stop voting against rather than for a candidate. It allows those who are not suitable for public office. Young people have an untapped source of talent, and it is vital to give them the means to succeed, including abolishing student debt which stultifies growth. This requires a Department of Children and Youth to introduce trauma-informed learning and wrap-around services, restorative justice, conflict resolution, mindfulness and mental health services in schools. Elected officials have to be properly scrutinized in order to be held responsible for their actions. they do, remembering always that they work for the people , not the other way around. PS. I am deeply grateful to Marianne Williamson, former Democratic Presidential candidate, for some of the ideas discussed in this article. Victor A.
